100 Chicago Gang Members Arrested

The Chicago Police Department has arrested nearly 100 documented gang members on narcotics and weapons charges in what's being called one of the largest drug and violence missions in the department's history, officials said Friday.

Over the past two days, a total of 140 people were arrested, 95 of them being documented gang members, police said. At least 83 people also received "enhanced charges" for selling narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school.

The department said it used its "strategic subject list," an algorithm that calculates "the propensity of an individual to be a victim of gun violence based on a number of risk factors, including gang affiliations, arrests and previous contact with CPD." Of the 140 arrested, 117 were on the list, authorities said.

Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson indicated the arrests were done ahead of the summer months, when city violence has traditionally spiked.

"These initiatives send a clear message to anyone who contributes to the sources of violence in Chicago: you will be subject to the full weight of the Department and our partners in law enforcement," he said in a statement. "Put simply, violence this summer will not be tolerated."

The arrests were made particularly in two targeted districts in the city, the 11th and the 15th, both of which were deemed among the city's most violent districts.

In addition to the arrests, police said 23 weapons, $45,000 worth of narcotics, 278 packs of unstamped cigarettes and $7,000 in currency were confiscated.

Men Sentenced to 40 Years for Slaying of Teens at Park

Two young men who pleaded guilty to killing two teenagers at a community park in Oceanside will spend decades in prison, a judge ruled Friday.

Martin Melendrez, 25, and Santo Diaz, 22, were sentenced in a Vista courtroom Friday for the 2013 shooting deaths of Edgar Sanchez Rios, 16, and Melanie Virgen, 13.

Melendrez, who pleaded guilty to murder, was sentenced to 40 years to life behind bars without probation. Diaz, who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, received a sentence of 39 years.

On the night of March 13, 2013, Rios, Virgen and two other teenagers were gunned down at Libby Lake Park in the 500 block of Calle Montecito in Oceanside. Rios and Virgen died, while the other two teens, including David Garcia, survived the shooting.

According to prosecutors, Virgen and Sanchez were killed in retaliation to gang activity.

Diaz and Melendrez were two of four young men charged in the slayings. Others included Michael Zurita and Kevin Brizuela. The men were all arrested a few weeks after the park shooting.

Inmate records indicate Brizuela’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 3.

In December 2015, a judge found Diaz not guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. A mistrial was declared for Diaz on two counts of attempted murder. His sentencing Friday was for voluntary manslaughter charges.

More than 50 people packed the gallery at Friday’s sentencing, including family members of both the defendants and victims.

Melendrez and Diaz both addressed the court, Melendrez through a statement read by his attorney.

That statement read, in part: “I'm remorseful for the event and for the loss of innocent lives. [There are] no words to make it right or take pain away. I hope and pray in time they can forgive me.”

Diaz turned to the families of the victims are said this: “I’d like to apologize for your losses; I’m very sorry for what happened. I did not shoot.”

Some of the victim’s family members walked out of the courtroom as Diaz spoke.

“I’m changing,” he added. “[I] want to be someone successful.”

Diaz’s attorney claimed his client was not the shooter in this case and was not involved in planning the shooting at the park.

Diaz’s mother also spoke, asking for forgiveness from the victims’ families on behalf of her son and family.

“I just want to say sorry. My son, I love you and I'll be waiting for him, the mother said.

Diaz’s sister, Sonja Diaz, spoke as well, saying the shooting has caused pain for many families.

“It has broken many hearts,” said Sonja.

Loved ones of the victims also addressed the court, including Sanchez’s cousin, who said the teen loved cooking, “had a heart of gold” and adored his friends and family. He asked the judge to give Melendrez and Diaz to the maximum sentences for cutting Sanchez’s life short.

“[Edgar] didn’t get a chance to graduate,” the cousin added.

Sanchez’s mother, Georgina Sanchez, also spoke in court.

“I came to say thank you for justice being done. I come here destroyed. I have not been able to recover,” Georgina said. “It seems like it was just yesterday.”

Sanchez’s sister, Nataly Sanchez, told NBC 7 she did not feel Diaz’s apology was sincere.

“I don’t believe he was sorry – [that] he’s sincerely sorry,” Nataly said. “Melendrez, I do believe is sorry. It’s hard for me to forgive him. I accept [Melendrez’s] apology and I believe it was sincere but I just, I can’t say, ‘Yes, it’s okay that you took my brother.’”

Meanwhile, Virgen’s cousin told the court the teens were “so young, so full of life” and described Virgen as wise, strong and outgoing.

Garcia, one of the survivors of the shooting, also addressed the court and offered forgiveness.

“Everybody makes mistakes; people are suffering. I'm not angry with you. I do forgive you,” Garcia said. “What you did, it’s not going to go unpunished. Whether you shot or not, you were there.”

“I forgive you since the day I woke up,” Garcia added. “I forgive every single one of you.”

The deadly shooting at the park deeply rattled Oceanside residents, many still reeling from another round of deadly violence in their community, at that very same park two years prior.

On May 3, 2011, the bodied of teenagers Fernando Felix Solano, 16, and Sandra Salgado, 14, were found shot to death near Libby Lake Park.

A community impacted by gang activity, Oceanside continues to rebuild after the violent tragedies, promoting a better life for youth through mentoring programs such as the Vista Community Clinic’s Project REACH.

The group has hosted “Celebration of Life” gatherings at the park on the anniversary of the Libby Lake shootings to bring residents together to remember the young lives taken too soon and encourage the bright futures of teens who still live in the area.

Garcia spoke with NBC 7 in March 2015 about how the violence changed his life and community.

Now a student at Mira Costa College, Garcia said the shooting made him realize that making Oceanside a safer and better place is possible. The incident gave him a second chance at life, he said, and hope for the future. Garcia now helps mentor youth through Project REACH.

According to Project REACH, Libby Lake Park is starkly different than it was three years ago. Today, Oceanside youth have taken back their park, playing and enjoying the space instead of living in fear.

Upton Jr. Blasts Padres Past Dodgers

The 2016 Home Run Derby isn’t until July 11th at Petco Park, but Friday nights match up between the Padres and Dodgers sure seemed like one with the two clubs combining for five long balls.

Christian Friedrich made his second start for the Padres and struggled on the mound going just 3.1 innings giving up two earned runs on six hits but only surrendered three walks. His main contribution came in the batters box. Friedrich’s second inning two-run, two-out single gave the Padres the 2-0 lead and the 28-year old his first career RBIs.

Dodgers Scott Kazmir also struggled going 5.2 innings surrendering five earned runs and walking seven. But he got some help from his offense in the fifth.

Yasiel Puig started the home run trend in the top of the fifth sending a two-run shot off Padres reliever Carlos Villanueva to right-center to break a 2-all tie giving the Dodgers a 4-2 lead.

Derek Norris led off the bottom of the inning and didn’t waste any time chipping away at the lead. The Padres catcher sent a solo shot to left-center to cut L.A.’s lead in half. It was his fourth homer of the season and just his second hit in the last seven games, both home runs.

Villanueva pitched a 1,2,3 top of the sixth to keep it a 4-3 Dodgers lead before being lifted for a pinch-hitter, Christian Bethancourt. Bethancourt was originally in the starting lineup in right-field just hours away from his first MLB start at a position other than catcher when Padres manager Andy Green switched him out for Jose Pirela. Bethancourt made a case for the starting nine tomorrow. After birthday boy Adam Rosales walked the 24-year old sent a one-out, two-run shot to left field putting the Padres ahead 5-4.

But the home run derby wasn’t over yet. Top of the eighth-inning Justin Turner stepped up to the plate with Carl Crawford on and sent a Brandon Maurer offering over the right field fence putting the Dodgers back on top 6-5.

Coming off a four-game losing streak, things didn’t look good for the Friars in the bottom of the ninth. They were down by one with Wil Myers leading off against Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen. Myers was hitless in the game and 0-3 against Jansen in his career striking out all three times. But this is baseball.

Myers hit a blooper into shallow center. Next up Melvin Upton Jr. got three straight cutters from Jansen. There’s a saying that in Major League Baseball you never throw a hitter three of the same pitch. Jansen’s third cutter didn’t cut and Upton Jr. sent it to the stands in right field and the Padres to a 7-6 walkoff win.

San Diego improves to 18-25 on the season while the Dodgers fall below .500 at 21-22.  Cesar Vargas gets the ball for the Padres tomorrow, opposite Alex Wood.

A military exercise in Eastern Europe that involves hundreds of American, British and Georgian troops has led to increased tensions between the West and Russia, NBC News reported.

The joint-military action, Exercise Noble Partner, was designed to bring the Georgian military closer to NATO. The drill comes at a time of growing tension between the Western alliance and the Kremlin.

The Vaziani Training Area where the drills took place is just 45 miles from the Russian border, infuriating Moscow.

"We regard this ongoing 'exploration' of Georgia's territory by NATO forces as a provocative step aimed at escalating the military and political situation in the South Caucasus," the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Stone Plans Tap Room in Napa

Stone Brewing plans to tap the Northern California beer market next year by opening a new tap room and brewery in Napa, the company announced Friday.

The Escondido-based brewer will hop about 500 miles north to the region renownedfor its wineries with Stone Brewing Tap Room: Napa, slated to open in 2017.

The tap room will be housed in the 10,000-square-foot historic Borreo building in downtown Napa located on 3rd Street and Soscol Avenue, the company confirmed.

Renovations to the site are now underway, as the 19th century building – which, fittingly is made of stone – has been vacant for the past 15 years. The building was completed in 1877 and features a distinctive design made of native-cut stone.

The brewing company says it plans to keep many of the Borreo building’s historic elements intact, but will transform the building’s western wall to add doors to a garden that faces the Napa River.

The new tap room will include a 10-barrel pilot brewing system, dining room, growler refills and Stone merchandise. The space will include an outdoor seating area with communal tables, fire pits and view overlooking downtown Napa.

“The historic Borreo building is the perfect space for us to put down our roots in Napa,” said Greg Koch, Stone Brewing CEO and co-founder in a press release. “We recognize the high quality of wine that comes from the region and the appreciation that Napa Valley locals and visitors have for fresh, well-crafted drink. We are elated to become a contributing part of such an artisanal town.”

The company says the Napa venture will produce Stone’s most popular year-round brews, as well as special releases, using both core recipes and ingredients specific to the local geography.

The dining menu will include both dine-in and carry-out items, and Stone intends to purchase local and small-farm organic produce from the Napa region to create dishes that highlight local flavors.

The NorCal project has been on Koch’s radar for years. Koch has been visiting the Napa region for more than 20 years and first toured the Borreo building site about five years ago.

“I’m a huge Napa fan,” said Koch. “We’ve tried a few times to make something happen there, and are thrilled to finally see it come to fruition!”

This tap room joins two other Stone expansion projects already underway: Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens in Berlin, Germany, which opens this summer, and Stone Brewing – Richmond, which begins producing brews from its 250-barrel brewhouse in Richmond, Virginia, this July.

Stone Brewing is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. The San Diego-based company was founded by Koch and Steve Wagner in 1996 and is the 10th largest craft brewer in the United States.

Cathedral High School Shows Support for Student Battling Cancer

The whole of Cathedral High School turned out for a huge show of support this week for a classmate battling cancer.

More than 1,600 students, teachers and administrators packed the Carmel Valley, San Diego, school’s football stadium, all wearing red – the school color — in support of sophomore Bryce Newman.

Support for Bryce, who battles an aggressive form of brain cancer, has united the school before. Last fall, players on the school’s junior varsity football team all shaved their heads in support of their teammate, who was unable to play a single snap.

Tuesday's school-wide photo was first intended to be a smaller affair. But Cathedral staffer Anne Pickard thought bigger. She asked the principal to get the entire school involved and he did, asking each student to wear red that day.

“We thought it was only like two classes and it ended up being the whole school, so it was pretty cool,” Bryce said.

In addition, his football team has collected $4,500 in donations for Bryce.

But a photograph captured what could be the most powerful moment off all, when every student and staff member raised their hands towards Bryce in the center as a symbolic gesture of strength and support.

No one knew it but their timing couldn’t have been more perfect, considering the tough news he'd received just days before.

Doctors believe that, despite grueling treatment, Bryce's cancer has now recurred.

His dad, Rick Newman, told NBC 7 his family is overwhelmed with emotion over the school’s gesture.

“It’s the best high school in America,” Newman said.

You can follow Bryce’s journey on the family’s Facebook page.

Teen Who Lost Leg to Flesh-Eating Bacteria Speaks Out

A Chula Vista teen who lost his right leg to a rare flesh-eating bacteria, says he still has dreams of playing professional baseball in the future.

Giancarlo Gil, 14, contracted a strain of Group A Strep last September.

The Chula Vista High School student and star athlete was admitted to Rady Children’s Hospital after complaining of pain in his calf. The bacteria ate through his tissues and destroyed his blood vessels and nerves.

Doctors amputated Giancarlo’s right leg up to his knee but days later, his leg was amputated up to his groin.

Seven months later, Giancarlo is continuing his physical therapy and has a prosthetic leg.

The teen was on the high school’s football team and a member of a traveling baseball team.

He says one of his biggest accomplishments was starting to walk again. Now, he has his sights set on playing sports again.

“I would still like to be a professional baseball player somehow, if I can get into that. But if not, I still want to be in baseball some sort of way. Whether it’s broadcasting, coaching, anything,” Giancarlo said.

The teen says he’s thankful for the support from his friends and the community throughout his recovery process.

His mom, Silvia Gil, says she is so impressed and proud of the progress her son has made in the past seven months.

“You’d be amazed at what your kids can teach you and show you,” she said.

Giancarlo says sometimes, he does think about why it happened to him but tries not to dwell on it.

“Like, I think about it for a little bit and just fast forward. Like, I know this happened for a reason,” he said.

Silvia says she wants Giancarlo to learn how to do everyday things like vacuuming and cleaning the house, so that he can be independent one day.

“It’s funny how we take things for granted until you’re presented with a situation like this, you start realizing that, wow, life is really good. And it still is,” she said.

Silvia says they are relying on their faith for what the future holds for Giancarlo.

But the family will support the teen in anything he is meant to pursue, whether it's to coach or be a mentor.

Several Hurt in Oceanside Crash

One adult was airlifted to Scripps Hospital and a 10-year-old girl was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital after a fiery, head-on crash in Oceanside Friday night, the Oceanside Police Department confirmed.

The collision happened at around 8:15 a.m. in the 4600 block of North Avenue near Vista Pacific Drive.

Police said two vehicles were involved, carrying a combined total of five people: a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling eastbound on North Avenue and a Cadillac driving westbound.

Police said the driver of the Cadillac, for unknown reasons, drifted over the dividing line on the roadway and slammed head-on into the F-150.

According to police, an officer drove up on the collision and saw that both vehicles were engulfed in flames. By that time, all five occupants in both cars had been able to safely escape.

The Oceanside Fire Department credited an unidentified Good Samaritan for helping the victims get out of the burning cars.

The Oceanside Police Department said firefighters were able to knock out the blaze and keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes on Rose Drive.

Meanwhile, medics took another child who had been riding in the F-150 to  a local hospital as a precaution. Another child was released to family members at the scene.

The driver of the Cadillac suffered a broken ankle. He was taken to TriCity Medical Center, along with another passenger in his car.

Police say drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash. The cause is under investigation. Both drivers involved in the collision are from Vista. Their names were not released.

Residents said crashes are far too common in the area.

Bob Rogers lives along North Avenue and told NBC 7 three cars have plowed through his fence. He hopes this latest crash is a wake-up call to the City of Oceanside to consider making traffic improvements to the area.

"I think this is too wide of a road. People drive too aggressively to get to their destination. As a result, tonight someone got hurt," Rogers said.

Battle Over Playground Balls in Poway

A Poway man, angry over what he considers inaction by the Poway Unified School District, has stirred up controversy by posting signs facing a school playground.

“I want this problem to end,“ Scott Rings said as he showed NBC 7 San Diego the posters he put up on his property Thursday.

He estimates over the last 10 years 1,700 balls have landed on his property bordering Midland Elementary School.

He said the problem of wayward balls began as soon as the school opened in 2006. Then, two years ago, Rings' says his dog may have been killed by a basketball but there is no proof.

On Thursday, Rings put up two white banners facing the playground with “Your basketball killed my dog” and “Keep your balls off my property” in large black letters.

Near the banners were two images of dogs. Some children thought one image showed the dead dog.

“You start crossing the line when you target kids, when you’re communicating directly to the kids,” said parent Aubrey Paris. “It’s beyond disturbing and inappropriate.”

A school custodian rolled out white boards to block the view of students.  PTA parents also put up blue tarps along a chain link fence to block the signs.

Parents who talked with NBC 7 say they were upset that the school and the district did not take action sooner.

“It’s very upsetting to think that my child for three hours yesterday was in danger. They were sitting ducks on that playground and no one was told,” said parent Kelly Menck.

Principal Sidia Martinez informed parents Friday saying, “The posters do not make direct threats to our students or staff.”

That was a message reiterated by Poway Unified School District spokesperson Christine Paik.

“There was no threat in those posters. Obviously the images in there were disturbing,” Paik said, adding that counselors were made available to talk with students who may have been upset about the signs.

“I don’t blame the kids at all. I’ve never blamed the kids for a single ball that’s come over,” Rings told NBC 7.

He said that he expected the district office to send someone to his home to discuss the problem.

The district put up the chain link fence to remedy the problem, Rings said, but children play wall ball against it and balls still land in his yard.

“We are very aware of this neighbor,” Paik said, explaining that the district has been working with him to find a solution.

“He seemed satisfied with the resolution of that fence going up. I’m not sure what triggered it but this was a new move on his part,” Paik said.

Parent Jovan Gonzales talked with NBC 7 about the conflict as he arrived for the school's Carnival Night. He said his wife told him to be on alert.

“I think it’s uncalled for. There’s better venues to handle these types of situations and unfortunately in this case he didn’t handle it the right way,” Gonzales said.

Rings said he now feels unsafe because of the reaction to the signs.

“I’m feeling concerned because a lot of anger from the parents coming at me that I did not intend at all,” Rings said.

Rings’ roommates Jessie Malbaney and Amber Grigsby agree that there have been an unusual number of wayward balls over the year.

However, they feel the response to the signs has been blown out of proportion.

Paik said there has been a meeting set up next week between Rings and district officials to address the posters.

For now, students will be on a modified recess where they will be kept away from one side of the playground and will have limited ball activity.

“These are kids. They are playing in the playground. Balls are going to go over into his yard. He lives near a school,” Paik said.

Delayed Response to 911 Call During Restaurant Robbery

Employees at a La Jolla restaurant say they were on hold for 10 minutes when they called to report a robbery in progress last week.

A man who owns a business nearby tells NBC 7, they noticed the suspect even before the robbery took place and had tried to get a hold of police.

But they were also put on hold.

Buisnessman Adam Barno says if they had been able to get through to Dispatch, the suspect may have been stopped.

“I think he was able to take his sweet time and scope, and do all these things,” Barno said. “Even if somebody does call on him, they know they have enough time to get away with it.”

On May 9th, Chedi Thai Bistro restaurant on Pearl Street and Mabel Bell Lane in La Jolla was robbed at gunpoint around 9 p.m. The suspect, described to be in his 20s, took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Another witness told NBC 7, he had also called 911 to report the robbery but he was put on hold by Dispatch.

Barno tells NBC 7, that wasn’t the first time he has been unable to get through to police.

“Why would I be calling that number? Obviously something is happening and I need assistance. Police, or whatever it is, medical. It's an emergency. That's the only reason we’re gonna call,” said Barno.

A surveillance video outside of Barno’s liquor store captured a video of a man that matched the suspect description police gave for the May 9th robbery.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has pledge approximately $652,000 to improve the issue of delays with 911 calls. The Mayor did not address the delay with this 911 call.

His office says they cannot disclose how the funds will be spent to fix the issue.

The first pictures of debris from crashed EgyptAir flight MS804 were published Saturday by military officials in Cairo, NBC News reported.

An uninflated life vest, parts of the aircraft fuselage, headrests and seat upholstery with the airline's logo were visible in the images, distributed by Egypt's army spokesman via social media.

The debris was recovered Friday about 180 miles north of Alexandria, on the Egyptian coast.

Earlier Friday, France's air accident investigation agency confirmed the plane's systems sent automated messages indicating smoke was detected aboard the plane moments before it disappeared from radar, but that no conclusions are being drawn about the cause.

"This usually means a fire," BEA spokesman Sebastien Barthe told NBC News.

Clinton, Sanders to Rally in San Diego

It’s a busy weekend for politics in San Diego, as Bernie Sanders and Bill Clinton both plan to hold rallies in American’s Finest City ahead of California’s June 7 primary.

Former President Bill Clinton will rally for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign with an hour-long “organizing event” at 11:30 a.m. at Bonita Vista High School, located at 751 Otay Lakes Rd.

The doors open at 10:30 a.m. Supporters can RSVP to the rally here.

By 7 a.m., about 40 people were lined up outside the high school, waiting to get into Clinton's rally. This included a supporter who said it was his birthday, and just knew he had to be there.

"Nothing ever happens on my birthday, and I knew I needed to be here to support Hillary Clinton," he told NBC 7.

Saturday's stop in San Diego is part of Clinton’s campaign tour throughout California, which also includes stops in Pomona, Bakersfield, Fresno, Delano, Stockton and Sacramento.

NBC 7 has confirmed Bill Clinton will also speak at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe (5951 Linea Del Cielo) Saturday at 1 p.m., after the morning rally.

This is Bill Clinton's second visit to San Diego this month. On May 4, he rallied for his wife's presidential campaign at Balboa Park.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s campaign rival, Sanders, will also rally with supporters in San Diego over the weekend – both Saturday and Sunday.

First up, Sanders will rally at 7:30 p.m. at Kimball Park located at 1243 National City Blvd. in National City. The doors open at 4:30 p.m., and supporters are advised to RSVP to the event ahead of time here.

The National City Police Department (NCPD) said attendees of Sanders’ rally at Kimball Park will be subject to some restrictions, including screening by Secret Service personnel. There are no bottles, backpacks, large bags or weapons allowed at the rally, and attendees should not have any metal on their person.

“Think airport screening process,” the NCPD said.

The entrance to the event will located in the 1400 block of D Avenue. The police department says supporters should be dropped off on E. 12th Street, between C and D avenues, which can be accessed from the 300 block f E. Plaza Boulevard.

Due to the rally, the NCPD says some road closures will be in effect around Kimball Park for approximately two hours prior to the event. Closures include:
• D Avenue., from E. 12th to E. 16th streets
• E. 12th Street, from National City Boulevard to B Avenue
• A Avenue, from E. 12th to E. 14th streets
• E. 15th Street at D Avenue

The police department said additional streets may temporarily be blocked off during the event. Carpooling and public transportation is advised, as parking around Kimball Park is very limited.

On Sunday, the U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate will make his way north to Vista, rallying at 2 p.m. at Rancho Buena Vista High School’s stadium located at 1601 Longhorn Dr. The doors open at 11 a.m. Again, supporters can RSVP in advance here.

Sanders visited San Diego back in March, on the heels of the terror attacks in Belgium. That rally, held at the San Diego Convention Center downtown, drew thousands of supporters.

NBC 7 will cover the rallies across both campaigns with live video, photos and details from the field. Check back for updates.

Enthusiastic supporters filed into a high school in San Diego Saturday for a rally with former U.S. President Bill Clinton in support of his wife’s campaign for the White House.

Clinton held an “organizing event” for Hillary Clinton’s campaign at Bonita Vista High School on Otay Lakes Road, hoping to get voters fired up ahead of California’s June 7 primary.

Clinton was set to speak at 11:30 a.m. but supporters were lining up around the high school hours earlier, hoping to get into the event.

This included residents from across the county, like a supporter who was celebrating his birthday by rallying for his presidential favorite.

“Nothing ever happens on my birthday, and I knew I needed to be here to support Hillary Clinton,” the local told NBC 7 as he waited in line.

Local Brandon Flores was the first person waiting in line to get into the event. He was there with his mother, a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton supporter.

“She really wanted to come see Bill Clinton and I’m not going to pass up a chance to see him in person – a former president – you don’t get the chance to see that often,” Flores told NBC 7.

“I’m so excited for Hillary. I’ve been [a supporter] for her for years because she’s like the bouncing ball where you hit it, and she bounces right back. And this is what we need in our president – somebody that has resilience and brains,” Flores’ mother said.

NBC 7 has confirmed Bill Clinton will also speak at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe (5951 Linea Del Cielo) Saturday at 1 p.m., after the morning rally.

This visit to San Diego is part of Clinton’s campaign tour throughout California, which also includes stops in Pomona, Bakersfield, Fresno, Delano, Stockton and Sacramento.

Bill Clinton’s next stop is scheduled for Sunday at Cesar Chavez High School in Delano, California, where he will be joined by civil rights and labor leader Dolores Huerta, according to the Clinton campaign website.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s campaign rival, U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, will also rally with supporters in San Diego over the weekend – both Saturday and Sunday.

Sanders will first rally at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Kimball Park in National City. On Sunday, Sanders will head to Rancho Buena Vista High School’s stadium (1610 Longhorn Dr.) for a 2 p.m. rally with supporters.
