Sheriff’s Dept. Releases Internet Safety PSAs

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has released a couple of hard-hitting videos about internet safety aimed specifically at teenagers and parents.

The public service announcements were released Wednesday via YouTube.

With the end of the school year and summer vacation around the corner, officials say teens generally have more free time to spend online, which is why the safety videos were created.

The video for teens depicts the dangers of online predators, with a first-hand account from a woman who was abducted and assaulted by a predator she met online at the age of 13.

The PSA for parents reveals statistics about sex-related crimes both online and offline and asks the question: “Are your kids safe?”

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says parents should use the videos as a springboard to have an open discussion about internet safety with their children. The videos can be seen below.
