A person was killed Wednesday night following a shooting in Escondido, according to police.
The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. on the 600-block of MacDonald Lane.
Medics declared a victim, 36-year-old Brandon Sanchez (pictured below), dead at the scene. He had a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Police took is 58-year-old Michael Hemphill into custody and charged him with murder.
Investigators have recovered a weapon used in the incident.
Officers said they do not know the motive behind the shooting, but say it started with an argument between the two men.
The victim's sister told NBC 7 that Sanchez and Hemphill had known each other for a long time.
"My heart's breaking. I want my son back. I feel like I'm never gonna get over this, but I have to," said Lupe Sanchez of her son.

The family said Hemphill fell behind on the rent so Sanchez and a friend went to his residence to pay.
"Before I knew it, [Hemphill] walked right up to Brandon and shot him. Shot him, And my son goes, he stood up, 'He shot me.' Those were his last words. Those were his last words," said Lupe.
Lupe wants people to know her son was kind and caring, and recalled a told when Sanchez made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to help feed the homeless.
"He didn't deserve to die like that, he didn't," she said. "And I didn't have a chance to hug him and kiss him for one last time."
Hemphill will be arraigned in court on Monday, according to the district attorney's office.
