An armed man robbed a Subway sandwich shop in Hillcrest Friday night, the San Diego Police Department confirmed.
The robbery happened around 10:10 p.m. at the Subway located in the 3800 block of 4th Avenue in Hillcrest.
Police say an unknown man armed with a gun in his waistband entered the shop, displayed his weapon and demanded cash from an employee.
The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of stolen money and was last seen on 4th Avenue. The employee was not injured.
Officers searched the area but were unable to immediately locate the suspect. A police helicopter assisted in the search efforts. Hillcrest residents could hear the chopper overhead describing the suspect minutes after the robbery, as the helicopter scoured the area.
Police describe the armed robbery suspect a white, 5-foot-10 male with blond hair wearing a black jacket and plaid shorts.
