With scorching hot temperatures sweeping San Diego, the county is opening its “Cool Zones” to help locals beat the heat.

During the hottest days of the summer, the county designates air-conditioned settings where locals, especially seniors, can gather to cool off and avoid the hot weather.

The Cool Zones encourage people to use one air conditioning unit as opposed to each person or family using their own, helping to conserve energy.

They’re also easy to find, as all 33 San Diego County Library locations double as Cool Zones.

All 33 branches are open to the public on Saturdays, and 11 are always open on Sundays.

Additionally, amid the heat wave, four inland area branches will extend their hours. This includes the Borrego Springs Branch, Camp-Morena Branch, Jacumba Branch and Potrero Branch.

Other participating Cool Zones this summer season include the North Park Library located at 3795 31st St., the Mission Hills Library at 925 W. Washington St. and the University Heights Library at 4193 Park Blvd.
