A local U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) crew rescued an 80-year-old fisherman after he fell and injured himself on a sport fishing vessel about 230 miles south of San Diego Tuesday night.

According to USCG officials, the crew of the 93-foot Royal Star boat called the Coast Guard around 7 p.m. requesting help for an 80-year-old man who fell 10 feet between decks on the vessel while fishing.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego rushed to the vessel to perform a medical evacuation on the fisherman. A C-130 Hercules aircraft crew from Sacramento also launched to assist in the rescue.

Crews were able to hoist the injured man from the boat into their helicopter.

The victim was taken back to Sector San Diego at 1:20 a.m. and transported to a hospital for further treatment. His current condition is unknown.
