A mother and her two children were pulled from an overturned car near a San Diego-area highway Tuesday.
The Nissan Xterra was traveling along Interstate 5 around 4:20 p.m. when it went off the road, flipped and landed on surface streets below.
The vehicle landed on its roof along Jefferson and Gaines Streets. A car seat and stuffed animal toys were seen inside the car.
When Paul Van Ness approached the car, he realized he had to jump in to help.
"As I got to the car, I heard the baby. Full panic mode," Van Ness said. Watch video
"Three of us got the door open. One guy reached in and got the baby. From there, we just had to wait because no one wanted to move the people on the inside."
Firefighters and medics at the scene were able to successfully rescue the adult and the other child trapped inside the car.
The CHP said their injuries are moderate to major.
