A Del Cerro man has died from a gunshot wound sustained in a fatal altercation with his wife, police confirmed.
According to SDPD Officer David Stafford, the couple got into a fight that turned physical inside an apartment at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 5400 block of Adobe Falls.
Investigators say the 29-year-old woman and her 28-year-old husband began to argue and then the confrontation escalated into the pair struggling over the control of a handgun.
Ultimately, the woman grabbed the gun and shot her husband in the chest, police confirmed.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying on the bedroom floor in critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local trauma center with but died Saturday at 8:45 a.m., police said.
Initially, the case was being handled by the SDPD’s domestic violence unit, but now the homicide unit has taken over.
Homicide detectives say it is still unclear what the couple was arguing about in the first place. No further details have been released.
The woman was arrested and will be booked into the Las Colinas Detention Center for her husband’s murder.
At this point, the names of the spouses have not been released.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are processing the couple’s apartment for evidence and interviewing neighbors.
