"Fake General" Report Tied to Navy Base Closure

A San Diego-area military base was closed for about an hour Friday and one Navy doctor posted a possible reason on social media - someone was allegedly impersonating a two-star general.

The public affairs officer for Navy Region Southwest confirmed that Naval Base San Diego was shut down just after 11 a.m.

The spokesperson did not have information on what caused the closure however Andy Baldwin

By noon, the base was open and back to business as usual.

Lieutenant Commander Andy Baldwin, U.S. Navy physician, posted a message via Twitter, “ALERT: Naval Base San Diego is secured due to someone on base impersonating a 2 Star General. We are stuck on the ship until further notice.”

However, there was not an actual “shelter in place” order in effect according to the PAO.
