Convicted Child Molester Arrested at Border

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man near the U.S.-Mexico border Wednesday evening who was previously convicted of child molestation, Border Patrol officials said.

Agents saw the 37-year-old Mexican national cross the border near Jacumba in East County at around 6:30 p.m. When agents approached the man and checked his records, they learned he had been previously deported and had a conviction for child molestation and tampering with a witness in the state of Washington.

The subject was taken into custody by the Department of Homeland Security. He will be prosecuted for re-entry after deportation, Border Patrol officials said. The man's name was not released.
