An 8-hour police standoff at a Golden Hill apartment finally came to an end overnight.

San Diego police officers responded to what began as a domestic violence disturbance at an apartment in the 3300 block of C Street at around 6:30 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene, a woman came out of the apartment but a man who was also inside refused to come out.

The woman told police the man was possibly armed, and a standoff began.

Officers set up a command post near the apartment. As of 8:45 p.m., officials are still attempting to call out the barricaded man, using a bullhorn to communicate with him.

“It's scary because you don't want anyone to die,” said neighbor Wendy Holubowski. “I hope nobody gets hurt or killed.”

She said the area is usually quiet.

“It's just beyond me how somebody gets to this point they obviously need some help and I feel compassion for them,” Holubowski said.

San Diego police told NBC 7 San Diego that although the standoff has ended, they were awaiting an arrest warrant to clear before taking the suspect into custody.

The building where the apartment is located was not evacuated. No one was injured.
