Police are investigating the attempted theft of a yacht moored at the Southwestern Yacht Club Wednesday night that may have been by murder suspect Christopher Jordan Dorner.

Officials are working to confirm if Dorner attempted to steal the yacht from an 81-year-old man Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. at 2702 Qualtrough St.
The boat owner was on his 42-foot sundeck cruiser when a man matching Dorner’s description robbed him, tied him up and pulled the boat out of the slip officials said.
The suspect could not start the boat so he took some items from the vessel and left, according to police.
The victim suffered some rug burns, but is otherwise okay, a friend told NBC 7 San Diego.
“Nothing like this has happened before,” Craig Wong, general manager of the club, said. “We’re just grateful that our member is safe… and we’re trying to support the police investigation.”
The yacht club had surveillance video of the area and is working with investigators to see if the incident was recorded.
Wong said the boat owner is uninjured and is making light of the situation.
“He actually, based on his personality, is actually in good spirits,” he said. “Which is very much fitting with his personality.”
