With Cinco de Mayo celebrations galore, it’s going to be one festive weekend in San Diego. Enjoy these fiestas, plus a bunch of other happenings across the county.
Thursday, May 4
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (season runs through May 14), Carlsbad Ranch
The famous Flower Fields in Carlsbad Ranch continues its vibrant spring run, offering visitors spectacular views of bright blooms in all of their gorgeous glory. The fields are open daily, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., through May 14. Patrons will enjoy nearly 50 acres of colorful displays of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers, which are in bloom for six to eight weeks. The famous fields also include roses, orchids, sweet pea blossoms, petunias and poinsettias. Keep checking the Flower Fields website, too, because the venue hosts special events throughout the bloom season.
Del Mar Electronic & Manufacturing Show
10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Del Mar Fairgrounds
Get some inspiration in the worlds of ideas and design, assembly and manufacturing and quality and test at the Del Mar Electronic & Manufacturing Show Thursday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The expo features dozens of exhibitors in those fields, plus seminars and info on products and services. Admission is free, and so is parking.
San Diego Padres v. Colorado Rockies

Catch a daytime ball game at Petco Park Thursday as the San Diego Padres wrap up their series against the Colorado Rockies. First pitch is at 12:40 p.m.; tickets start at $15.
The Loving Story: Film Screening & Talk
6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., San Diego Central Library
The San Diego Central Library’s Neil Morgan Auditorium (330 Park Blvd.) will play host Thursday evening for this free screening of the 2012 Emmy Award-winning documentary, “The Loving Story,” presented by the San Diego Law Library. The film follows the story of Richard and Mildred Loving, the couple at the center of the landmark 1967 Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia, which legalized interracial marriage. The couple married in 1958, when anti-miscegenation laws were upheld in 16 states. This screening is part of Law Day 2017; the event will include speaker Professor Bryan H. Wildenthal, who will talk about the laws in effect at the time of the case, and how the case changed American law and society.
Palomar College Fashion Merchandise & Design Presents MODA
7 p.m., California Center for the Arts Escondido
Palomar College’s Fashion Merchandise & Design Program will present this fashion show Thursday night at the Concert Hall at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. The production highlights the past 70 years of style and fashion. Tickets range from $12 to $20 per person.
Rachel Feinstein
8 p.m., The American Comedy Co.
Touring comedienne and actress Rachel Feinstein stops by The American Comedy Co. in downtown San Diego to take the stage for three nights this weekend (Friday through Sunday). You may recognize Feinstein from appearances on “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,” “Trainwreck” and the Amazon series, “Red Oaks.” General admission for Feinstein’s Thursday night stand-up comedy show cost $8.

Friday Night Liberty

Stroll through Liberty Station at this monthly art walk showcasing working artists and live dancing, theater and music. This time, the entertainment lineup includes an a capella group performance The North Chapel, and an exhibit dubbed “Budding Art” by the San Diego Watercolor Society (in Building 202). As always, this event is free.
Rock Star Beer Festival San Diego: Cinco de Mayo Edition
6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Hard Rock Hotel San Diego
The Mexican craft brews will flow at the Cinco de Mayo edition of this festival at the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown San Diego. Attendees can enjoy samples of more than 50 beers while mingling across three different party areas: the “Woodstock Deck” showcasing live music from Latin-inspired cover bands, “Float” featuring high-energy, and the pool area serving as a laid-back lounge. Hungry? Specialty tacos will be available for purchase. Tickets range between $35 and $50 per person.
Cinco DEL Mayo
All day (through May 8), Hotel del Coronado
Kick back with a margarita or Mexican beer, tacos and mariachi music at the Sun Deck at the Hotel del Coronado. Dubbed “Cinco DEL Mayo” weekend, the libations and tunes are, of course, accompanied with views of the Pacific Ocean to the west and Mexico to the south.
San Diego Padres v. Los Angeles Dodgers
7:10 p.m., Petco Park
The MLB SoCal rivalry continues as the San Diego Padres take on the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night at Petco Park. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m.; tickets start at $18. This is the first match-up in the three-game series at Petco Park this weekend.
Heathers: The Musical
8 p.m., OnStage Playhouse
Chula Vista’s OnStage Playhouse presents San Diego’s first fully-licensed production of “Heathers” The Musical,” based off the cult classic 1988 film starring Winona Ryder and Shannon Doherty. The musical – which debuts Friday night – delves into high school’s classic clique of mean girls and what happens when a misfit decides to shake things up. The production runs through May 27, with 8 p.m. performances; tickets are $25.
Saturday, May 6
MiraCosta College’s 7th Annual Car & Motorcycle Show
9 a.m. to 2 p.m., MiraCosta College Parking Lot 1A
The MiraCosta College Automotive Technology Program will hold its 7th Annual Car & Motorcycle Show on campus, at Parking Lot 1A (1 Barnard Dr. in Oceanside). The event is free for spectators and will feature cool cars, live music, awards, a drawing and a go-cart competition.
Gearheads can exhibit their cars for $20 on the day of the event; any car or motorcycle can be displayed, without make/model restrictions. Categories include hot rods, classics, tuners, trucks, customs, choppers, rat rods, unrestored original and works in progress. Proceeds from the event will benefit military, veteran and EOPS students at MiraCosta College.
Cinco De Mayo Trail Run
6:30 a.m., Lake Poway
Want to work off some of those tacos you’ll be eating later today? Get a healthy head start of Cinco De Mayo weekend at this early morning trail run, which benefits the Valley Elementary Educational Foundation. The unique and challenging course goes down the Lake Poway Trail and through the foothills, and near the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. Registration starts at $10.
Yoga on the USS Midway
7 a.m., USS Midway Museum
Bring a little Namaste into your life this Saturday morning with yoga aboard the USS Midway. This free class, sponsored by Scripps Health, brings together Yoga One instructors aboard the historic aircraft carrier. All ages and skill levels are welcome, but participants are asked to bring their own mats for class. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the class begins at 8 a.m. The class has space on a first come, first serve basis for 1,000 attendees.
Battle of the Bays Kayak Tournament
7 a.m., Fastlane Sailing Center in Mission Bay
The first of two kayak fishing tournaments will take place early this Saturday morning on Mission Bay. The event, a fundraiser for the Coastal Conservation Association California, is a catch-and-release event. Barrio Logan Grand Prix

One of Southern California’s largest cycling events takes off from Barrio Logan this weekend. Watch as fast-paced bikers, top-level amateurs and children compete in their respective events. Spectators can watch bikers race along city streets on their 0.8 challenging figure eight course throughout the day.
Serra Mesa Spring Craft Fair
10 a.m., City View Church San Diego – Serra Mesa on Phyllis Pl.
Looking for a unique Mother’s Day gift? Stop by this local craft fair, which will feature more than 50 vendors selling handmade, fair trade, artisan items, in addition to cool vintage finds. The event is free.
Fiesta Cinco De Mayo in Old Town
11 a.m., Old Town San Diego State Historic Park
The 34th Annual Fiesta Cinco de Mayo takes over Old Town with this colorful, two-day festival featuring music, food and activities. The party includes a low-rider car show, historical demonstrations, a beer garden, a tequila tasting area and music and dancing across three stages. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Select eateries in Old Town will also celebrate by offering deals and specials on food and drinks. Cheers!
Festival of Colors

Come celebrate the Festival of Colors in North County this Saturday with interactive dancing, live mantra bands, DJs, yoga, regional cuisine, crafts and, of course, colors as far as the eye can see! Tickets start at $5 for admission, though you can buy packets with colors.

Pair some of San Diego’s best brews with local food from around Pacific Beach at this tasty event at Crown Point Park. VIP hour begins at 12 p.m., and general admission starts at 1 p.m. Tickets begin at $35.
Rhythm and Brews
1 p.m., Historic Downtown Vista Village
Sip tasty brews from more than 50 local breweries while enjoying music from three bands at this festival, perfect for craft beer aficionados. The event, which takes place in the heart of Vista Village, will feature more than 100 local brews from some of San Diego’s award-winning breweries. Proceeds from the event benefit the Guild, a nonprofit that promotes awareness of fresh, locally brewed beer through education and community participation. Tickets start at $35.
San Diego Sights and Sips
5:30 p.m., Hornblower Cruises and Events
Sunshine, sailing and cocktails come together on this Hornblower cocktail cruise. Hope on board for a two hour cruise with champagne, light Hors d’oeuves and more as you enjoy a beautiful view of the Bay during sunset. The boat leaves at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $37.50 per person.
WWE Presents: NXT Live

California Gold Surf Auction

Surfers, you’ll want to flag this event! Incredible surfboards and unique memorabilia, from the 1920s to the 90s, will be up for auction at this large Sunday auction. Some boards will even be signed by professional surfers. The event goes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets start at $10.
San Diego Big Green Eggfest and BBQ

You’ll want to show up hungry for this unique festival, which celebrates Big Green Eggs. For a flat fee, you’ll be able to sample and drunk as much food as you want throughout the day. Come celebrate Cinco De Mayo in Chula Vista this Sunday at this beloved cultural event, returning to Chula Vista after four years. The festival will feature more than 20 musical and culture dance performances in addition to music, interactive zones, and of course, plenty of delicious food for the entire family. First Date: A New Musical Comedy
2 p.m., Horton Grand Theatre
A blind first date transforms into a hilarious dinner when blind date newbie Aaron meets Casey, a serial dater. Watch as the pair - and their friends, restaurant patrons and more - sing and dance their way through a high stakes evening as each takes a chance on finding love. The San Diego Musical Theatre production plays at the Horton Grand until May 7. Tickets start at $40, though discounts are available for seniors, children, students and groups.
