A raccoon trapped between a fence and a shed for several days in Rancho Penasquitos was finally rescued last week, according to County News Center.

The raccoon became stuck in a space that was around six-inches in width--between a plastic fence and a metal shed.

According to Animal Control Officer Denise Gove, the raccoon appeared to have been trapped for several days before a neighbor found him and called County Animal Services last Friday.

Luckily, the little guy, approximately nine to 10 months old, did not suffer any injuries. He was released into the nearby area after his rescue.

Who Is James Comey? FBI Director Known to Buck the Trend

The man behind one of the biggest bombshells of the presidential election has never been one to follow tradition, NBC News reported.

Politically, FBI Director James Comey has been a registered Republican for most of his life. Personally and professionally, he is fiercely independent — so much so that President Barack Obama didn't hesitate to appoint him to his current position, despite Comey's history of donating to Republican presidential campaigns.

A career prosecutor, 55-year-old Comey has a history of defying both political parties.

But no past action has thrust him into the cross hairs quite like his announcement Friday — a mere week and a half before voters go to the polls — that a newly discovered batch of emails had prompted him to take another look at the email investigation that has dogged Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton throughout her candidacy.

A woman parking her car on a street in Otay Mesa was carjacked Friday night by a stranger who told her to look away, police said.

The incident happened at around 9:10 p.m. at 1300 27th Street. According to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), the victim’s window was rolled down and, as she parked her car, a man approached her.

That man told the woman to leave the car keys and get out, and told her not to look at him.

The suspect hopped into the victim’s car – a 2014 Dodge Journey with 20-inch rims – and drove away southbound on 27th Street. The woman was not hurt.

The victim was not able to provide police with a description of the suspect. The SDPD said the stolen car has tinted windows and the California license plate number 7UVB815. The case is under investigation.

A group of unknown suspects clad in clown costumes allegedly attacked a skateboarder in the College Area Friday night, stabbing him multiple times, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said.

SDPD Officer Robert Heims said police learned of the incident after the stabbing victim showed up at a local hospital.

At first the man was resistant to tell police what happened, as he had warrants out for his arrest and was carrying a pellet gun, police said. The victim told police he was riding his skateboard just before 9 p.m. when he got into an argument with someone across the street.

As the victim began to ride away on his skateboard, he told police four people in clown costumes assaulted him. He gave no further details to investigators, Heims confirmed.

The victim suffered a deep wound to his left cheek, a wound to the back of his right shoulder and two stab wounds to his stomach. He is expected to survive, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

With the nationwide trend of creepy clown costumes, several local police departments offered some tips earlier this month to those seeking to dress up in clown outfits on Halloween.

Musician and Chicano Icon Ramon 'Chunky' Sanchez Dies

Ramon “Chunky” Sanchez, a musician and cultural leader of San Diego’s Chicano community, has died, his daughter announced on social media early Saturday.

Sanchez’ eldest daughter, Ixcatli Sanchez, posted the news of her father’s death on Facebook, writing, in part: “it is with indescribable emotion that on 10/28/16 my Pops began his next journey in his phase we call life.”

Ixcatli’s post said the family is requesting privacy as they make funeral arrangements for the beloved singer and Chicano icon. She did not mention her father's cause of death.

Many San Diegans, including the Chicano Studies Department at San Diego Mesa College and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, took to social media after Chunky's passing to express their admiration for him and send condolences to his family.

NBC 7 spoke with some of Chunky’s family friends Saturday at Chicano Park. They expressed deep grief over the loss of the beloved Chicano icon.

“I really cried for Chunky [because] he had a big influence in my life,” Michael Arenas told NBC 7. “He was a hero to me because he taught me something, a life lesson that I will always carry: to fight for what’s right and to never give up.”

A longtime resident of San Diego, Chunky attended San Diego State University and considered himself a “barrio-ologist,” and was known by many in the Chicano community as a “hero of the barrio.”

He wrote the song “Chicano Park Samba” – about the culture, spirit and struggle of Chicanos – for Chicano Park, a colorful, mural-filled cultural landmark under the Coronado Bay Bridge that was designated a park in 1970. The song narrates the struggle for the creation of Chicano Park and has become an anthem for the Barrio Logan community.

“With Chunky’s influence, we have a park – we have this beautiful park. And not just the Raza, we invite the whole community, the whole county of San Diego to enjoy this park,” said Arenas.

After Chunky's passing, the website of the Chicano Park Steering Committee, the group that oversees Chicano Park, dedicated its homepage to Chunky, posting a tribute along with his photograph and the phrase: "Chunky Sanchez, Presente!"

Chunky was popular throughout San Diego for his visits to many local schools, where he spoke to classes and sang to children.

“He’s always been full of wisdom for us. If you go to any school around here they all know who Chunky is. You ask them who Chunky is and you’ll get a big reaction,” Arenas told NBC 7.

Family friend Noni Samano said Chunky was known for his passion to give back to the community and to speak the truth.

“When he sang, he sang about the people. He sang about the community. He did a lot for the kids; he went to the schools and would sing for the kids.”

Chunky was born in Blythe, California, to Mexican immigrant parents, both of whom were farm laborers. Growing up, Chunky also worked as a farm laborer while he perfected his musical talents and learned to compose his own songs, which became known for their political messages in the Chicano community. Chunky often performed at rallies and marches for the United Farm Workers Union, many times at the request of Cesar Chavez.

"He was involved with Cesar Chavez so much that when Cesar Chavez marched, he always called for Chunky because he loved Chunky’s music," Arenas explained. "No matter where he was at, he would call Chunky to come play with him at his marches and Chunky would drop what he was doing to go and play with him."

Over the years, he performed in musical groups, including La Rondalla Amerindia de Aztlan and Los Alacranes. He received many awards over his lifetime, including several from the California Arts Council and the City of San Diego Commission on Arts and Culture, as well as the César Chávez Humanitarian Award. In 2013, Chunky was named a National Heritage Fellow by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

Chunky is the subject of a documentary film by Paul Espinosa, currently in post-production, titled, "Singing My Way to Freedom."

“If you want to learn more about the Chicano community, you need to listen to Chunky’s music,” said Samano. “His heart and soul was in the community.”

In late November 2010, Chunky lost his youngest son, Fernando Julio Sanchez, 25, to a crash on Highway 138 in Gorman, California. Chunky is survived by several other children and more than a dozen grandchildren.

Chunky's birthday is on Sunday. He would have turned 65.

Arenas told NBC 7 he will forever carry the legacy and lessons of Chunky in his heart.

“Another thing that he always told us: the most dangerous Chicano was not a gangster. It was to be an educated Chicano,” Arenas recounted. “Chunky has taught us to never give up and always move forward. Forever love, Chunky. Arriba.”

“We’re going to miss him. This is a great loss,” Samano told NBC 7. “He’s an activist and he got out and he did things. He didn’t just talk about it. He was action.”

In addition to Chunky's loved ones, many San Diegans and groups, including the Chicano Studies Department at San Diego Mesa College, took to social media after Chunky's passing to express their admiration for him and send condolences to his family.

The State Department is ordering family members of employees posted to the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul to leave because of security concerns.

In a statement issued Saturday, the State Department says the decision is based on security information indicating extremist groups are continuing aggressive efforts to attack U.S. citizens in areas of Istanbul where they reside or frequent.

The Consulate General remains open and fully staffed. The order applies only to the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul, not to other U.S. diplomatic posts in Turkey.

Officials have identified a 67-year-old woman hit and killed by a car earlier this week while crossing a busy street in Santee.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's (ME) office said the victim was Santee resident Mary Gary. On Thursday at around 9:30 a.m., Gary was crossing Mission Gorge Road from the northeast corner at 1st Street, a three-way intersection with no traffic signal or pedestrian crosswalk.

She was struck in the middle lane by a driver in a 2006 Cadillac CTS.

Santee Paramedics worked to revive Gary in the roadway and then transported her to Sharp Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver, an 82-year-old woman, suffered no injuries. Drugs, alcohol or speed do not appear to be a factor in the accident, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Westbound Mission Gorge Road from Magnolia Avenue to Edgemoor Drive was closed for several hours during the investigation into the deadly crash.

Chicago-area product Jason Kipnis led off the third with a double to the right-field corner and Francisco Lindor followed with an RBI single, giving the Indians and Corey Kluber a two-run lead in the third.

Kipnis went to nearby Glenbrook North High School and grew up rooting for the Cubs.

Carlos Santana homered leading off a two-run second and third baseman Kris Bryant committed two errors to help the Indians grab an early 2-1 lead.

The Cubs had just gone ahead when Santana drove a 3-2 fastball to the right-field seats, quieting a rocking crowd.

The home run was the third of the postseason for Santana, who has just six hits in 37 at-bats. He set career highs with 34 homers and 87 RBIs this season.

Bryant threw wide to first after fielding Lonnie Chisenhall's ground ball with one out. His second error came with runners on first and second and two out.

Bryant's throw after he fielded Kluber's swinging bunt single hit off a stretching Anthony Rizzo's glove, allowing Chisenhall to score.

SDPD Collects Dozens of Guns in Exchange

"We’ve had several incidents here in San Diego where children have found guns that have been left in the garage or unattended and have injured themselves or others,” Lt. Ernesto Servin of the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said at the department’s second annual gun exchange in Palm City Saturday.

At the exchange, SDPD received a sawed off shotgun typical of those used in drive-by shootings.

“It’s completely illegal; this is something that could be easily concealed in a coat or a jacket," Lt. Servin said.

Police say many of the shootings they investigate involve stolen guns - so every unwanted weapon off the street is a good thing.

To get as many people to participate as possible, police say it's a no questions asked transaction.

James Thibodaux dropped off a .22 caliber rifle.

“My father-in-law passed a while back and left us with his guns and other things so it's just been sitting around,” Thibodaux said.

Last year the program took in more than 50 guns - many of them illegal.

Gun owners receive $50 to $100 gift cards in exchange for the weapons don’t have to deal with the lengthy process of legally selling them.

In total, SDPD collected 4 dozen firearms, 22 handguns, 16 rifles and 10 shotguns.

Stolen Campaign Signs in Poway Lead to Surprising Discovery

In Poway, the daughter of a City Council candidate is under investigation, accused of stealing the campaign signs of her father's opponent.

“It’s dirty,” Poway City Council candidate Joe Calabrese said. “I didn’t think people stole signs. I thought people had respect for property.”

When Calabrese noticed his signs were vanishing, along with those of two other candidates, he said he decided to do some detective work on his own.

Calabrese said when he pulled up to the Jersey Mike's on Pomerado and Twin Peaks roads earlier this week, he saw the suspects stealing his campaign sign and confronted them.

“I said 'this sign is okay, it's in compliance'," he said. "Halfway through the sentence and I'm thinking 'why am I explaining to crooks?' Give me sign back."

Calabrese told NBC 7 that he was surprised to find one of the two women suspected of stealing the signs, was the daughter of current Councilman Barry Leonard, his opponent in the race.

He snapped a picture of the two women and then notified the San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDSO)--who are now investigating the theft of five signs from three different candidates.

Meanwhile, Councilman Leonard issued the following statement regarding his daughter:

"Unfortunately, her passionate support for my council candidacy got the better of her judgment. Under no circumstances would I condone such behavior. I love my daughter as much as any father can, but my daughter's actions were wrong and she will need to face whatever the appropriate consequences are."

But Calabrese said he's disappointed in the current councilman and called for him to drop out of the race.

“I don’t think that’s the type of people we want representing the City of Poway,” Calabrese said.

The City of Poway said SDSO are investigating and will turn the findings over to the City Attorney’s office. Investigators did say that some of the signs may have been improperly placed.

Family and Community Gather to Remember Teen Killed in Vista

More than 100 people gathered in Vista Friday night to remember 17-year old Luis Canseco, a local who was found dead in the middle of the street on Oct. 25.

Now, family and friends of the teen say they want answers.

Canseco's body was found in the middle of Smilax Road around 8:34 p.m. Tuesday night. Authorities have sealed the autopsy but family members told NBC 7 that the teen was shot multiple times, beaten and then left in the street.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Officer ruled Canseco's death as a homicide.

"It was too brutal and he shouldn't have gone down like this," his mother, Yakima Canseco said.

Canseco, a senior at Twin Oaks High School, worked full time last summer painting houses and was about to start a part-time job this year, his family said. They described the teen as a hard-working, happy and polite young man.

"I just miss him and he was just amazing," Yakima said.

The family told NBC 7 that Canseco had been walking down the street with a friend when he was attacked by a group of people who pulled up next to them in a car.

During Friday night's vigil, those whose lives were touched by the teen gathered at the place where his body was found--the crowd of people spilling into the street.

His mother told NBC 7 that she would often sit down with her son and they would have discussions on how to make their lives better.

"I wanted him to be married. I wanted to see his children grow, everything," Yakima said. "He was just--they took him away."

Deputies don't have any suspect information at this time or a motive but they are investigating whether this homicide is gang related.

Meanwhile, Canseco's mother has a message for the community.

"We need to stick as a community and we need to stop all this violence. It needs to stop. No mother should have to bury their own child," she said.

A school in Encinitas sustained significant damage early Saturday when a fire ripped through the campus, officials confirmed.

At around 3:40 a.m., a fire sparked in the administration building at Oak Crest Middle School on Balour Drive, setting off the fire alarm system. When firefighters arrived, they could see flames shooting from the windows of the building.

Multiple fire agencies from the North County rushed to the school to help battle the blaze, including crews from Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe and Carlsbad. Firefighters were able to knock down the flames and prevent the fire from spreading.

No one was injured in the incident.

The school’s counseling and attendance offices sustained the bulk of the damage. A school official said those offices will be closed Monday, but classes will go on as normal for the roughly 900 students who attend Oak Crest Middle School.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is unknown, at this point, if arson is suspected.

Oak Crest Middle School is part of the San Dieguito Union High School District.

Forget the polls, we're calling this one early: Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom just won Halloween.

With the help of wigs, prosthetics and even a faux-secret service detail, the A-list couple fully transformed into Hillary Clinton and a Donald Trump caricature for Kate Hudson's Halloween party Friday night in Los Angeles. Katy (as Hillary) even had a pal dressed up as Bill Clinton but she and Orlando opted out of the traditional couples costume shtick by having him do a take on the Republican presidential nominee.

Katy, who has actively campaigned for the Democratic presidential nominee, Instagrammed a photo showing a team of professionals getting her into character. "Having a little pre party before I take office," she quipped. "#IMWITHME Cheers to @svedkavodka #howtosvedka @hillaryclinton."
