Former secretary of state and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton answered questions for 11 hours on Thursday in front of the House committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks.

This marked the ninth investigation and the third time Clinton testified about the attacks on the U.S. compound in Benghazi.

Here are some of the key points to take away from the hearing, according to NBC News.

Clinton appeared calm, compassionate and concerned — a sharp contrast to a Senate Benghazi hearing from more than two years ago — and she never raised her voice, while committee chairman Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina, said not much new was discovered.

A suspected drug dealer is now accused of raping a woman in the bathroom of a Vermont courthouse, the Burlington Free Press reports.

According to the report, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of 32-year-old Robert Rosario of Burlington, who is accused of assaulting the victim last Friday at the Costello Courthouse.

At the time of the incident, Rosario was in court for a hearing after being charged with selling more than an ounce of cocaine, the outlet reported.

The suspect could not be found, and Wednesday, officials issued a warrant in which bail was set at $250,000.

Thursday night, Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo issued a statement to the media expressing concern that the publicity of the warrant, the charges and Rosario's identity would make it more difficult to find him.

"He is now on the run, and we have good reason to believe he has fled the state," he said.

It's not clear if Rosario has an attorney.

The San Diego Sockers kickoff a new season Saturday when they return to the Valley View Casino Center for their 2015 opener.

The Sockers will host the Soles de Sonora starting at 7 pm in their first game.

The team is stacked with talent again this year but the Sockers find themselves in an interesting situation.

After winning 4 straight indoor championships, they fell short of reaching the title game the past two seasons.

Their dominance forced the other teams to start finding more and better players.

Now they want to raise their level of play and work towards becoming a championship-caliber squad.

NBC 7’s Derek Togerson kicked around a few questions with the players during practice earlier this week.

The Coronado Police Department is encouraging parents to make sure their children are aware of their surroundings when walking alone.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday a 15-year-old girl walking home from school noticed a black Ford Mustang following her near 7th Street and A Avenue. The driver pulled the car over a few feet in front of her and then sped off.

Several minutes later she spotted the same car pulling over and waiting until she walked past. The car then followed her down Margarita Avenue and pulled over in front of her a third time.

The girl ignored the driver and continued to walk home and said she was unsure if he continued to follow her. The driver did not roll his windows down or make any contact with the girl.

The driver is described as a bald man in his 30s driving a new, boxy style, black Mustang with tinted windows.

Police recommend parents tell children to turn around and go the other direction if they notice someone is following them, to identify safe houses they can go to for help, and to walk with friends.

U.S. officials said on Thursday that one American commando had been shot to death in the firefight at a prison in the town of Hawija, 34 miles southwest of Kirkuk.

American military officials said they responded to a request from The Kurdish regional government in Iraq, which had learned that the hostages faced "imminent mass execution."

"Mass graves were already dug," according to a senior U.S. military official with direct knowledge of the raid.

The father of a San Diego-based Marine killed in a fighter jet crash in England said his son was a "man among men" who was inspired to become a pilot by the movie "Top Gun."

Maj. Taj Sareen, 34, died Wednesday when the F/A-18C Hornet he was flying crashed near a U.S. base in England. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Kulbhushan Sareen spoke with NBC 7 Thursday, recalling how his son first spoke about flying the high-powered aircraft after he saw the movie starring actor Tom Cruise as "Maverick."

"He had enough discipline to achieve it. He went for it," Kulbhushan Sareen said.

Taj Sareen was even scheduled to attend the Navy's pilot training center in January, his father said.

Taj Sareen was a pilot with a pilot in Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 232, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. He was deployed as part of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response Central Command 15.2 and was returning with his squadron after a six-month deployment at the time of the crash.

A native of Hillsborough, California, Taj Sareen was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and became an instructor at Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron (VMFAT) 101.

Taj Sareen loved living in San Diego and was planning on buying a home in Encinitas when he returned, his family said.

Taj Sareen was on his third deployment when he crashed. His father said his son accomplished everything he set his mind to – so much so, that he grew to look up to his son.

"He lived his life the way he wanted to," he added.

"When he was growing up, he used to watch and observe me. When he grew up he became so good that I started watching and observing him and trying to emulate him," Kulbhushan Sareen said.

Kulbhushan Sareen said he didn’t sleep the night after learning of his son’s death but said he didn’t cry.

"Every thought that came to my mind was happiness, joy, being proud of him. And that was the kind of person he was," he said. "If he walked into a room, it was like joy walking into a room."

MCAS Miramar released a statement saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and fellow Marines of Major Sareen, and we are currently providing support to those affected by this tragic incident.”

A former Washington, D.C., police officer and pastor could be sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting two teen girls.

Darrell Best, 45, pleaded guilty Thursday to the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl at police headquarters and a 16-year-old girl at the church where he served as pastor. Best will be sentenced to 18 years in prison if the court approves his plea agreement.

The 16-year-old victim told police Best sexually abused her three times at the church beginning in December of 2014. He was off-duty during the incidents, police said. According to charging documents, Best was in uniform on one occasion when he raped the girl inside the church.

Best took at least seven sexually explicit pictures of the 16-year-old, according to the documents.

The second victim, who was 17 at the time of the alleged incident, said Best sexually assaulted her in his office on the fifth floor of police headquarters after he took her out to dinner, according to charging documents. He was wearing his badge and gun at the time.

During a previous hearing, prosecutors also revealed that Best sexually harassed a female cadet he supervised in 2007. He was demoted from sergeant to police officer for an incident of sexual misconduct while on duty in 2008, prosecutors added.

Best will be sentenced on Feb. 26, 2016.

Defense attorney Elliott Queen, who has represented Best in the past, has not yet returned requests for comment.

Dentist's Murder Linked to Cartel

Authorities have indicted two people in the murder-for-hire plot that left a Dallas dentist dead in a parking garage, and police said the duo may be linked to a drug cartel.

Kendra Hatcher, 35, was fatally shot Sept. 2 in the parking garage of her Uptown apartment complex.

Police said Brenda Delgado, 33, remains on the run and is considered a fugitive, but a grand jury has indicted her for capital murder. Investigators believe Delgado, who allegedly dated Hatcher's boyfriend, planned Hatcher's murder and hired people to carry it out.

According to an FBI affidavit, one of those people, Crystal Cortes, told detectives Delgado was upset her ex-boyfriend was dating Hatcher and had recently taken her to San Francisco to meet his parents. Hatcher and Delgado’s ex-boyfriend were also scheduled to leave for Mexico the day after Hatcher's murder, according to the affidavit.

In her indictment, prosecutors allege Delgado promised to pay a hitman with money and drugs from a drug cartel. She also allegedly used an iPhone to track Hatcher's location, the FBI affidavit reveals.

Kristopher Love, man police believe pulled the trigger, has been indicted as well for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. According to an arrest affidavit, Love admitted to his role in the robbery that resulted in Hatcher's death.

Dallas police said 23-year-old Cortes has already admitted her involvement in the murder. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Cortes told detectives she was behind the wheel of the getaway vehicle on the the night Hatcher was shot and killed. Cortes told detectives she was paid $500 to drive the shooter to the parking garage to commit a robbery.

In the affidavit, Cortes told police Love waited for Hatcher to drive into the garage and park her car. Cortes said Love got out of the Jeep and she heard a gunshot, then Love returned with two purses, according to the affidavit. After the shooting, Cortes said Love threatened that she and her 6-year-old son "would be next" if she talked to police.

Cortes was arrested Sept. 4 and also faces a capital murder charge.

Hillary Clinton called her eleven-hour testimony in front of the Benghazi House Select Committee a “pretty long day” in remarks at the DNC Women’s Leadership Forum on Friday morning, NBC News reported.

Clinton said she was glad that she “finally got to answer questions” during the hearing on Thursday, “something I’ve been pushing for literally a year.”

Campaign aides said they were pleased with Clinton’s performance at the hearing, but maintained that last week’s debate was a “bigger moment” for her to showcase her strengths. They were also frustrated over the committee’s fixation on Sidney Blumenthal, Clinton's long-time ally.

During the speech, Clinton also commented on Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not run for president and on Bernie Sanders’s comments on gun control.

A San Diego-area teenager fighting for his life against a flesh-eating bacteria is speaking to his parents, hospital officials confirmed Thursday.

Giancarlo Gil, 14, a Chula Vista High School freshman recently underwent his tenth surgery at Rady Children’s Hospital.

He's listed in serious condition but is said to be alert and talking with his parents, hospital officials said.

Gil complained of pain in his calf Saturday, Sept. 26 after playing baseball. His condition quickly changed and Gil was taken to urgent care and then to the emergency room.

Doctors said a flesh-eating bacteria was causing Gil to vomit and his calf area started to swell up and bruise, according to a family friend.

Doctors originally amputated the teen's leg to the knee and then days later the leg had to be amputated all the way up to his groin.

"His parents are overwhelmed with the support they continue to receive from family, friends and Giancarlo’s classmates from Chula Vista High School where he is a student," hospital spokesperson Carlos Delgado said in a written release.

Protesters Rally Against Fatal SDPD Shooting

As the San Diego Police Department investigates a fatal officer-involved shooting this week, more than 100 demonstrators gathered in City Heights Thursday to protest police violence.

The group, rallying at the Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park, called for an end to law enforcement brutality which, they say, includes the killing of Lamontez Ardelbert Jones, a 39-year-old black man.

Jones was fatally shot by two SDPD motorcycle officers Tuesday in the Gaslamp Quarter when he pulled a replica gun from his backpack and pointed it at the officers, police say.

“Just another case where police used the ultimate device on a black person,” said activist Michelle Macrorie.

But SDPD Capt. Bernie Colon said Tuesday’s shooting was justified.

“Anytime an officer feels threatened for their life or the public, they are going to take the action that’s going to be taken. That may include shooting,” said Colon.

During the rally, the protesters covered up the memorial for slain Officer Jeremy Henwood, which is placed across from the SDPD’s City Heights substation. Henwood was killed sitting in his patrol car in 2011 when a suspect opened fire.

One organizer said protesters covered the memorial so they can focus their attention on victims of police brutality.

“Yes, it hurts a little bit,” said Colon. “At the same time, we have to allow them their rights, to have their First Amendment rights.”

Thursday’s march was part of an annual National Day of Protesting, so several activists representing a variety of causes participated.

"Injustice happening to any of us is injustice to all of us," said Macrorie.

Necrophilia Case Going to Court

Days before jury selection begins, prosecutors are fighting to keep Gregory Graf from using his mental state to defend himself against charges he murdered his stepdaughter, then recorded himself having sex with her corpse.

The five-day search for Jessica Padgett, a mother of three and newlywed from Northampton County, Pennsylvania, came to a stunning end the day before Thanksgiving last year when investigators found her body in a shallow grave on the property where Graf lived with Padgett’s mother.

District Attorney John Morganelli is asking the judge to prohibit any expert testimony during the trial from a psychologist the defense hired to evaluate Graf.

The defense missed a deadline to disclose the findings of their psychiatric evaluation. Without that information, Morganelli argued, he’s left with little time to determine if he needs his own expert to mentally evaluate Graf.

Attorney Jack McMahon is expected to use Graf’s mental state to defend him when the Allentown man’s trial gets underway Nov. 2.

"We can’t be surprised on the eve of the trial," Morganelli told The Morning Call.

Padgett, 33, was last seen Nov. 21 when she left her job at a day care to run an errand and went to Graf's place to fax some papers. Graf, 54, admitted to shooting Jessica in his home, according to Morganelli. After violating her corpse, prosecutors allege Graf buried Padgett's body behind a shed in his yard.

While she was missing, Jessica’s family and friends set up a "Help Find Jessica Padgett" page on Facebook. More than 8,000 people joined the group and have since helped raise more than $20,000 to help support Padgett’s children.

A hearing on Morganelli’s petition is scheduled for Oct. 30.

West Nile Deaths Reach Record High in San Diego

State Testing corroborated local findings that two more people have died from West Nile Virus raising the total number of deaths from the disease this year to four – a record high in San Diego.

The two confirmed deaths include an 88-year-old Southeast San Diego man and a 91-year-old University City woman. Both were previously suspected to have died from the disease.

“These unfortunate deaths are a strong reminder that West Nile virus is a potentially deadly disease, and is active in our region,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H, County public health officer. “It’s important that the public continue taking precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, which transmit West Nile virus.”

County officials urge people to prevent mosquito breeding by dumping still water outside the house. Mosquito fish, which are available for free from the Environmental Health Vector Control Program, can be used in backyard water sources to control mosquito breeding.

They also remind people to stay inside when mosquitos are most active – from dusk until dawn – and to wear long sleeves and pants or use repellant. Residents should report dead birds or green swimming pools to the Environmental Health Vector Control Program.

18 cases have been confirmed by State Testing. The disease reached its peak in 2008, when 37 cases were reported in the County.

Statewide 18 people have died this year.

Woman Asks to 'Taste' Kids: Police

A suburban Minneapolis woman has been arrested for sending anonymous notes to her neighbors saying she wanted to taste and lick their children, police said.

Carrie Pernula, 38, was charged Thursday by summons with stalking and disorderly conduct, according to Champlin Deputy Police Chief Ty Schmidt.

The family received the first disturbing note in the mail Sept. 27 that anonymously read, "The children look delicious. May I have a taste?"

After the concerned parents posted the letter to the city of Champlin’s community Facebook page, it started spreading across social media, with residents urging police to take action out of concern for the children’s safety.

"I tossed and turned all night brewing about this," said one commenter.

Shortly after, the family began to receive magazine subscriptions addressed to the "tasty children."

Investigators stepped in and traced the magazines that were sent back to Pernula, who was taken into police custody last Friday, and admitted to sending the threats. She was released from jail Monday.

Her attorney, Debbie Lang, called it "an unfortunate and complicated situation for everyone involved."

Pernula told police she sent the messages because the kids made noise and left items in her yard.
